WEBLINK WIRELESS BANKRUPTCY
From RCR Wireless News:
WebLink Wireless issues debt plan
July 16, 2002 1:09 PM EST
DALLAS—Paging and messaging carrier WebLink Wireless Inc. announced it reached an agreement with its creditors to restructure the company’s debt, a major move in WebLink’s long stay in bankruptcy court.Under the plan of reorganization, WebLink will emerge from bankruptcy with $40 million in debt. Interest on $20 million will be payable in cash and on the other $20 million will be payable in kind by the issuance of additional notes.
“We are happy to reach this agreement with our creditors,” said N. Ross Buckenham, president and chief executive officer of WebLink. “We believe there will be a great demand for wireless data applications and services running over ReFLEX networks, and WebLink is pleased to continue to lead the industry as it evolves.”
The company expects to emerge from bankruptcy in September as a private company, and Buckenham will serve as chairman of the board as well as president and CEO. The company filed for bankruptcy more than a year ago.
WebLink’s announcement comes just a few days after the industry’s No. 1 carrier, Arch Wireless Inc., made a proposal in the bankruptcy court to take over WebLink’s network.
WebLink has a news release about this on their web site.
What in the world does a big house burning down in Dallas have to do with paging? A lot more than you might think. This is "the house that paging almost built" and its story has a strange parallel to the whole paging industry. Read the PageNet Scrapbook about one of the grandest homes in Texas that was never finished.
