AMERICAN ASSOCIATION
OF PAGING CARRIERS
The following message was sent out this week to the members of the AAPC.
If you are a paging carrier and are not a member yet, this might be a good reason
to join and get involved.
As a member of AAPC your company is automatically eligible to participate in the activities of the Paging Technical Committee. In fact, the PTC would be happy if you or a member of your firm were to attend and join in the sometimes lively technical discussions.
The PTC is an ad-hoc group made up of mainly the senior level engineers who run the day-to-day technical activities of the major paging carriers in the USA. They meet 3 times per year at differing geographic locations. The meetings are normally sponsored by either a carrier or vendor. In an effort to broaden its membership and gain some fresh thought, the PTC is asking you to participate in its next meeting. The date is September 25, 2002 and the place is Seattle, WA. The sponsor for this meeting is Zetron. Specific details will be announced as they become available.
The issues raised at the PTC deal mainly with the technology of our industry. Discussions of codes, formats, control systems, etc are the primary fare for these meetings. The person in your company most involved with the technical issues is probably the best person to attend the PTC meeting.
It will give your company a chance to meet peers from other carriers, discuss items of mutual technical interest and gain some insight on how our industry evolves in a changing technological world. All discussions are strictly limited to technical, non-business, issues. Vendors are always welcome to offer demonstrations of their latest wares, especially as they apply to the evolution of our industry. The PTC is the historic home of such industry standards as TAP, TNPP, WCTP and helped define the many changes made by Motorola to FLEX and ReFLEX. We are currently discussing issues of architecture for the next generation of wide-area paging systems. Please consider joining us at the upcoming meeting.
Send your questions, and/or acknowledgements to:
Stephen Oshinsky
Chairman, PTC
E-MAIL ADDRESS REMOVEDWe look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in Seattle.
Best regards,
Barry Kanne
Vice-chairman, PTC

This week I got a carrier in the Ukraine who needed some Twocan pagers in touch with a carrier in Argentina who had some extra ones. The Internet is really a powerful tool. Do you have something you need or something that you want to sell? Let me know.
I have a new resumé on my web site from an engineer in Mexico. He is Javier Gómez, and he has extensive experience in paging and PCS. This was sent in by my friend Enrique Llaca, former manager of Motorola Paging in Mexico. You can view Javier's resumé by clicking here or send him an e-mail by clicking here.
